Dennis Hopper died at the age of 74 after losing his long battle with prostate cancer. Hopper, best known for Easy Rider, Blue Velvet and starring opposite Keanu Reeves in Speed, passed away at his home in Los Angeles, California, on May 29.
Hollywood is missing a man who created great work and was also known for stirring the pot on more than one occasion to raise the ire of the establishment.

Born in May of 1936, Hopper came to enormous fame when he wrote and starred in the counter-culture classic, Easy Rider, co-starring Peter Fonda. Hopper would later think of the film as a huge political moment in American history where the power of the youth had finally been broadcast to a wide audience through the medium of film.

What is also so special about Easy Rider is it was Hopper who cast Jack Nicholson, who was a struggling Los Angeles attorney.

Hopper had been fighting cancer valiantly for over nine years and finally succumbed at the age of 74.

Among his co-stars leaping at the chance to tribute their lost friend was Easy Rider co-star Peter Fonda.

"Dennis introduced me to the world of Pop Art and lost films. We rode the highways of America and changed the way movies were made in Hollywood," Fonda said. "I was blessed by his passion and friendship."

After his success and career rejuvenation with Speed alongside Reeves and a newcomer named Sandra Bullock, Hopper did his fair share of "bad" movies, otherwise known in this town as "paycheck" films, including starring in the film version of the game, Mario Brothers.

Late in his life, Hopper was cast in the Starz series based on the film Crash. Hopper received glowing reviews for what was one of his last pieces of work.

SheKnows caught up with Hopper co-star Katrina Bowden just days before Hopper’s death and the 30 Rock actress was glowing about her experience filming The Last Film Festival alongside a legend.

"He's such a good actor. I was very impressed," Bowden said. "My time with him was precious. I will always treasure it."
