Teena Marie, Grammy-nominated R&B singer and multi-instrumentalist, has died at the age of 54. According to published reports, Marie died at home of apparent natural causes after celebrating her daughter's birthday.
A white singer, Marie and her powerful, soulful voice nonetheless found acceptance and success in the '80s on urban radio with hits like "Lovergirl," "Portuguese Love," "Ooo La La La" and "I Need Your Lovin'."
Word of Marie's death rocketed through social networks Sunday evening (12/26), with confirmation via Marie's manager and publicist coming at least an hour after initial reports surfaced on Twitter.
TMZ reported that police in Pasadena, CA, where she lived, do not suspect foul play.
The L.A. Times reported police and paramedics were called to her home about 3 p.m. on Sunday after her daughter found her unconscious. The L.A. County Coroner will perform an autopsy to determine cause of death.
CNN, quoting Marie's publicist Lynn Jeter, reported that Marie suffered a grand mal seizure a month ago. WebMD says the symptoms of such a seizure include unconciousness, convulsions and muscle rigidity.
"Luckily, someone was there," Jeter reportedly said of that incident. "The ambulance took her to the hospital, and on the way she had another seizure."
Marie, born Mary Christine Brockert, was active on Twitter until hours before her death, tweeting through Christmas Day about her daughter's birthday and the rain storms soaking the Los Angeles area, as well as responding to a number of fan messages.
One of her final tweets read, "Sarah Vaughan 'May You never grow old, and may I never die.'"
Marie's most recent release was "Congo Square," released on Stax in 2009.
Marie had recently finished a batch of tour dates that included a run on the Carnival Capital Jazz Cruise in October and was scheduled to perform New Year's Eve and New Year's Day shows with Frankie Beverly and Maze before a run of West Coast dates in February and March.

Marie Osmond recently revealed in “The Oprah Winfrey Show” the details about her son’s death.
Michael Bryan, Marie Osmond’s son had committed suicide eight months ago and there were rumors that one of the reasons for his suicide was because of his sexuality. Marie Osmond denied this rumor stating that “My son was not gay. He wanted to be married and have a family and travel all over the world. And it wouldn’t matter if he was. I have a daughter who is gay, and it was my daughter who was offended by it, like, ‘What? All gay kids commit suicide?’ She really wanted it cleared up.” She then told Oprah that her son was suffering from depression and drug abuse ever since he was 12 because of his difficult childhood. Marie Osmond’s son was found dead 8 months ago as he jumped from the 8th floor of an apartment building in Los Angeles. The coroner ruled out the death as suicide.
After the death of his son, she returned to work within a couple of weeks because she could find solace in the stage. She also mentioned in the talk show that “I know that if I didn’t get back on stage, that I may never get back on stage.”

Sixteen months after Michael Jackson's death, his ex-wife Lisa Marie Presley finally opened up about their much-scrutinized marriage.
"I didn't understand my relationship with him," Presley, 42, confessed on The Oprah Winfrey Show Thursday.

Though skeptics have labeled their 18-month marriage a sham, Presley insisted it was the real deal -- though she understands why Jackson's behavior might cause people to question its validity.
"To some degree, he was a master at manipulating the media," she said. "I understand that nobody really knew who I was. They just assumed I was going along with something he would be doing....I understand it better now. The manipulation was a survival tactic for him."

After Jackson's death in June 2009, Presley said she's "come to have all this love again and understanding for him. I don't know why it had to take all that to have this happen. That upsets me a bit."
But Jackson's ex-wife admitted she didn't always have such warm feelings for the King of Pop, whom she divorced in 1996.
"I was very angry. I was so angry," she revealed. "I felt that we were so united, and then at some point he pushed me out."

According to Presley, part of the reason she felt distant from Jackson was due to his increased drug use, which he attempted to keep a secret.
"I didn't really suspect and catch on until just before I filed for divorce. There was just an occasion, an incident where he had collapsed and he was in the hospital," she recalled.
Though doctors blamed it on a viral infection, Presley said that "every day there was a different report. And I couldn't tell what was happening. I couldn't really get a straight answer about what was happening with him, and I think we were all a little bit in the dark."

Looking back, Presley wondered if she could have potentially saved her estranged ex-husband's life.
"I know it's naive to think that I could have, but I wanted to," she admitted. "Had I made a call, had I stopped being so shut off from him, had I just said 'How are you?' I really regret that I didn't."

PROVO, Utah - Marie Osmond's 18-year-old son is being remembered by family and friends as a funny person, a gifted musician, athlete and a peacemaker who taught others the importance of giving. Services were held at noon Monday for Michael Bryan, the fourth of Osmond's eight children, at a chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Provo. Police said Bryan died Feb. 26 in an apparent suicide after jumping from the eighth floor of an apartment building in Los Angeles.
About 450 people attended the services, where LDS Church President Thomas S. Monson presided and gave the closing remarks. The funeral began with an invocation by Donny Osmond and family members followed by sharing their memories of Bryan. The service also included a hymn sung by Marie and Donny Osmond as well as five of their siblings.
"It's overwhelming how much Michael was a part of a lot of people's lives and how he brings people together, even now," said Bryan's uncle, Jimmy Osmond. "He was always a peacemaker. He was a wonderful boy."
In addition, Bryan's brother, Steven Craig, Marie Osmond's son from her first marriage, performed a song he wrote after his grandfather passed away two years ago.
"We used to sit down together and sing together and we used to write together and so it was a great experience and opportunity to express my love for him," Craig said.
Bryan was one of five children adopted by Osmond. He legally changed his last name from Blosil, the name of his adoptive father, to Bryan, according to records from Utah's 4th District Court.
Authorities are still waiting the results for autopsy and toxicology tests to determine the official cause of death and whether drugs or alcohol played a role.
Police also said he left a note in his apartment, but have not yet released the details of its contents. Bryan was a first-year apparel manufacturing student at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles.
Osmond said her son entered rehabiliation services in 2007, but did not say what he was being treated for.
