Heisman Trophy, Will Muschamp, SMU, Craig James, Eric Dickerson and David Stanley News Update

Here’s a recap of today’s events:

Will Muschamp has become Florida’s next head coach.”This is a dream come true,” Muschamp said in a statement. The now former defensive coach for Texas has decided to move to Florida, where he spent 10 years as a kid in Gainesvillle.

Former Florida quarterback Cam Newton, this year’s Heisman Trophy winner and Auburn’s shining star left Florida a little over two years ago over allegations of cheating and a theft charge. Go figure.

SMU has released ‘Pony Excess’ a documentary released by ESPN chronicling the controversial tactics of SMU recruiters, and it is sure to cause a stir. We’re keeping an eye out for some streaming coverage of the documentary and will post it when possible.

Eric Dickerson and Craig James are two of the leading figures in the documentary, and if you wanted to find out more about it, you might try a search for them in the goog. Of note is David Stanley who contributes to the documentary film.

Chris Johnson should have been quiet about record, Eric Dickerson said

The verdict has been out for a while on Chris Johnson’s lofty goal of beating Eric Dickerson’s 1984 single season rushing record [2,105 yards] . It’s a definite no-go especially after the Tennessee Titans dismal 17-6 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday in which he collected 53 yards on 13 carries.

So we caught up with Eric Dickerson,50, Monday during a conference call promoting ESPN’s latest 30 for 30 documentary, Pony Exce$$, premiering this weekend to ask him about his thoughts on what goes into a 2000-plus rushing yard season.

Earlier this NFL season Chris Johnson talked about wanting to break your record. I was wondering what you thought when you heard about that and also what kind of things have to go right to rush for more than 2,000 yards in an NFL season?

Dickerson: I heard about him talking about wanting to break my record. The one thing about having a season like that is it’s not something you talk about, especially publicly. Those NFL defenses take that personal, they really do. And coaches take it personal when you say you’re going to rush for 2,000 yards.

Everything has to go right, you have to stay healthy, you can’t fall behind, you have to keep games close. You get down like they did yesterday with 17-zip, all the sudden you have to throw the football. It’s just so much has to go your way.Matter-of-fact going through all my medical records a couple of months ago through the NFL, I found out that year in 1984 I only full practiced seven times that year. Really I wasn’t healthy a lot, but I was able to play in games. And that’s how it is, that’s the life of an NFL running back. It’s a lot that goes into trying to stay healthy to try and rush for 2,000 yards. One thing is that the team has to get into it

Do you think Chris Johnson possibly could break that one day?

Dickerson: It’s possible, it’s always possible. He’ll have to go out and to it first. I don’t want him to break it, I’ll say that (laughs). I think one day that record will be broken. I’ve lived a long life, I hope I’m dead and gone when that happens, but somebody will break it someday.

I think Chris Johnson has the physical ability to reach his goal. He is just in his third NFL season after all. But a series of lucky breaks must fall Johnson’s way for him to reach 2,000-plus yards again. Judging by the way things look in Tennessee right now, it may be a while.

Rutgers Player Paralyzed: Eric Legrand Football Injury Video – A lot of people are worried about the condition of Eric Legrand as he was taken to Hackensack Medical Center last Saturday after suffering a spinal injury in a collision against Army’s football player Malcolm Brown. His body was paralyzed from neck below all the way to his feet.

After the collision, Eric LeGrand lay motionless for seven minutes while his neck was immobilized and he was placed on a backboard. He was immediately treated at the intensive care unit of the hospital. Army coach Rich Ellerson walked on the field at one point and put his hand on Rutger coach Schiano’s shoulder to comfort him.

LeGrand’s family thanked all the people who helped them saying: “We want to say thank you to everyone for all of your prayers, kind words, and well wishes. We appreciate every single thought. Eric is in good spirits and we are praying for a full recovery.”
When asked about LeGrand’s condition in the hospital, Coach Schiano said: “Eric’s spirits were as good as you can expect. He was cognizant of me being there, his mom, everybody. He’s a fighter.”

Below is Eric Le Grand’s Video detailing what happened to him after making a violent tackle in the game against Army last Saturday. We’re all praying for his fast recovery and we look forward to seeing him walk again with his team.

Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly: See the 'Back to the Future' that almost wa

By Banzay on 17:32

It's long been known that Eric Stoltz was originally cast as Marty McFly in "Back to the Future." What we haven't seen -- until now -- was actual footage from Stoltz's brief time on the film.

Now, though, a few snippets of Stoltz as Marty -- including the famous scene where he sits down next to his future father (Crispin Glover) in a diner -- have been made public for the first time (you can see them in the clip above). They're part of the "Back to the Future" 25th anniversary Blu-ray set.

Stoltz shot five weeks' worth of scenes as McFly, but as director Robert Zemeckis, writer-producer Bob Gale and executive producer Steven Spielberg explain in the clip, his comic sensibilities didn't quite mesh with what they were looking for. He was replaced by Michael J. Fox, and you know the rest.

Stoltz has done just fine as an actor -- his breakout film "Mask" was released a few months before "Back to the Future" in 1985, and he's been working steadily ever since, including his current role on "Caprica." And he has a place among the all-time might-have-beens in Hollywood, joining Tom Selleck as Indiana Jones and Sylvester Stallone as Axel Foley in "Beverly Hills Cop" (no, really).

We know there's no sound in any of the clips of Stoltz, and we also know the footage may not be color-corrected. But is it just us, or do the brief shots of Stoltz make that version of "Back to the Future" fell more like a wistful coming-of-age drama than a fast-paced comedy?

Jessica Simpson Dating Retired NFL Star Eric Johnson

What is it with Jessica Simpson and football players?
The former Newlyweds star and pop singer is finally dating again after her split with Tony Romo last summer. Her new beau is former NFL star Eric Johnson.
Simpson starred with her then husband, Nick Lachey, on the television program Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica, where the freshly married couple shared their most intimate moments on camera. It wasn’t long before the pop singer started saying really silly comments on camera (does anyone remember the Chicken of the Sea incident?), giving her a reputation for being a “ditz” and “airhead.” The couple divorced in 2005, but Simpson’s television career has been far from over. You can now watch the blonde artist on her show The Price of Beauty on VH1.
Since Lachey, Simpson has been tied to Maroon 5 crooner Adam Levine, comedian Dane Cook (with whom she starred in the movie Employee of the Month), and musician John Mayer (who called her “sexual napalm” in an interview with Rolling Stone).

Since her split with Tony Romo last summer though, Simpson has been flying solo.
Eric Johnson is a former San Francisco 49ers tight end, but the last he played for the NFL was in 2008 for the New Orleans Saints. Johnson only recently split from his wife by filing for divorce from her in February. Sources tell TMZ that the couple has been dating since May and are “very happy.”
Shall we start the betting pool to see how long this one lasts?

MICHIGAN CITY --- A month from the day he is set to be executed at the Indiana State Prison, Matthew Eric Wrinkles will appear on national television, confronting the family of his victims and Oprah Winfrey.

Wrinkles, an Evansville man convicted in the 1994 murders of Debra Jean Wrinkles, 31; her brother, Mark "Tony" Fulkerson, 28; and Fulkerson's wife, Natalie "Chris" Fulkerson, 26, is to appear on "The Oprah Winfrey" show with relatives of the victims, including his two children, according to a preview on the Oprah.com Web site.

The show airs at 9 a.m. Tuesday on WLS- Channel 7.

The state Supreme Court upheld Wrinkles's conviction and death sentence, and he is scheduled to die by lethal injection in Michigan City on Dec. 11.

Wrinkles is scheduled to be the first Indiana inmate to be executed in two years, barring any last-minute appeals or a commutation of his sentence by Gov. Mitch Daniels.

The Wrinkles separated after years of marital strife, which took a deeply violent turn July 21, 1994, when Eric Wrinkles donned face paint and camouflage clothing went the the Fulkersons' home to seek out Debra Jean, who had moved in with the couples' two children.

Wrinkles cut the phone lines and kicked in the back door, then gunned down his three victims. The Fulkersons' 9-year-old daughter witnessed him shoot her parents, then Debra
Jean. Wrinkles has maintained his judgment was clouded by methamphetamine addiction.

Natalie Fulkerson's mother, described in media reports as a devoutly religious woman, has said she wants Wrinkles' sentence to be commuted to life in prison.

Wrinkles will interview with family members via satellite uplink from the prison.
