John Heffron has an impressive resume: he won the second season of NBC’s Last Comic Standing, was a finalist in season three, has two, half hour comedy specials on Comedy Central, and is a mainstay on a host of VH1 shows. What’s more impressive is the way his comedy has evolved over the past decade. His first CD, The Kid With a Cape, focuses mainly on his childhood and college years, topics which many comics (cough-Dane Cook-cough) have spent their entire careers exploring. Heffron’s comedy grew as he continued touring and recording, shifting to awkward single years as an adult, then to young married life. Heffron keeps his comedy fresh and funny, even if he is making observations which a thousand comics before him have trampled. Credit a little bit of delivery, a little bit of timing, and a lot of experience thanks to constant touring and developing new material. John will be playing at Improv Paradise Live (5700 Seminole Way, Hollywood) Thursday through Sunday. Tickets start at $15.90.
