British Parliament worker Katia Zatuliveter accused of being a Russian spy; insists she's innocent

Great Britain may have its own Anna Chapman, the sexy Russian spy who was deported over the summer.

In what seems like a page out of a spy novel, a Russian-born aide to a British politician was detained Thursday and accused of spying on her boss.

The news of 25-year-old Katia Zatuliveter's arrest left her boss, Liberal Democrat MP Mike Hancock, defending his aide on Sunday when the news broke.

"She is not a Russian spy," he told the London Times, which broke the story.<

Sources described Zatuliveter to the newspaper as charming and intelligent – and often wearing slightly scandalous clothing.

"She would walk around in very short skirts and high heels with Hancock and they would be seen having lunch together,” one source told the British newspaper.

Whatever he was interested in, British officials believe Zatuliveter targeted the 64-year-old lawmaker because of his work on the Western European Union assembly and defense where he focuses on Russia.

According to the report, he also has a reputation as a womanizer.

While the possible presence of a Russian spy ring in their own country has Brits on edge, intelligence forces said Zatuliveter was more of a sleeper spy, and didn't do much damage.

But it's certainly an embarrassment for the intelligence services, who vetted her before allowing her to work in the British Parliament for almost two years.

"It is scandalous that the security service would allow a Russian to work for someone on the defence committee,” a former KGB agent told the Times.

Hancock, however, insists it is all just a misunderstanding.

"I know nothing about espionage, but she has been subjected to a deportation order," he said according to CNN. "She is appealing it, because she feels — quite rightly — that she has done nothing wrong."
