Elton John baby daddy and so is David Furnish as they welcomed their first baby this Christmas.
Elton John and husband David Furnish have become the proud parents of a baby boy, Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John, who was born through a surrogate mother on Christmas. Elton John and Furnish wed after 12 years of partnership in London in 2005.
The two have been quoted as saying, “We are overwhelmed with happiness and joy at this very special moment…Zachary is healthy and doing really well, and we are very proud and happy parents.”
The happy couple had previously tried to adopt an HIV+ baby from the Ukraine but government regulations prevented the adoption from going through. Still, Elton John and Furnish promised to support the child (named Lev) despite the government’s foolhardiness; while Elton and David could definitely support a child financially, the government said that 65 year old Elton John was too old and they also didn’t recognize his marriage to David Furnish as valid.
Baby Zachary weighed in at 7 pounds, 15 ounces. It has been speculated that his middle name is in reference to Elton’s 1971 song “Levon,” which was written in tribute to longtime collaborator Levon Helm. Zachary is the couple’s first child together, and is reportedly doing very well.
