President Matthew Aaron unvieled a potrait of Mrs. Shriver. The portrait, shows Mrs. Shriver and several athletes including Loretta Claiborne of York, a celebrated Special Olympics athlete whose live is subject of a book and a Disney mad for TV movie.
Matthew Araron said that Mrs. Shriver was founded Special Olympics and organized the first competition in 1968. She was committed to inclusion, acceptance, human dignity and change.
State Street Miracles opened the celebration by singing “God Bless America.” The seven players who participated in the event is also Special Olympics athletes. Editor Roger Ricker, players were Klapinsky Jennifer, Kim Watson, Jake Spencer and Brian Short, all of Middletown, Peter Crumb of Upper Providence, Brittany Roberts Thornbury and Wayne Erin McGivney.
Miracles are very pleased to meet Ms. Claiborne, who congratulated Ms. Shriver for his commitment to people with disabilities and to change his life. Ms. Claiborne told the crowd he grew up in the projects of York and anger is a teenager who probably go to jail if not for Special Olympics.
