The Topeka Performing Arts Center has booked a comic heavyweight, but don't call Gabriel Iglesias fat. He's fluffy.
The gregarious and affable Iglesias will make his TPAC premiere at 8 p.m. Feb. 24 on the Georgia Neese Gray Performance Hall stage. Tickets, which are $35, will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at the box office at TPAC, 214 S.E. 8th, and through Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000, www.ticketmaster.com and through the ticket seller's retail outlets.
The 34-year-old San Diego-born comedian often works his girth into his act whether it's talking about how hearing his girlfriend coo the words "chocolate cake" over the telephone works like phone sex for him.
Iglesias' most recent Comedy Central special, "Gabriel Iglesias: I'm Not Fat...I'm Fluffy," his third for the network, can be seen this weekend at 10 p.m. Saturday and 9 p.m. Sunday. It also will be released Jan. 11 on Blu-Ray disc, making it one of the first stand-up specials to be produced on that higher-quality format.
Iglesias' "Fluffy Shop" tour has been a hot act, with sold-out performances and five-star reviews around the country for his storytelling and voice skills. The comedian has used those skills on an episode of "Family Guy" and as the voice of Guaca, a recurring character, on Disney Channel's "The Emperor's New School."
