Rob Bell, the unconventional, electrifying West Michigan pastor whom Time magazine dubbed "a singular rock star in the church world," got to meet a very different kind of electrifying rock star on the set of Good Morning America today: Sammy Hagar.
Bell, who was on air to discuss his new book on heaven and hell, seemed to enjoy the unconventional pairing, tweeting the photo with this message: "Hanging out with my new friend Sammy Hagar on the set of Good Morning America. I repeat: me and Sammy Hagar."
Hagar, known as the "The Red Rocker", is hawking a book of his own: his sex-drugs-rock-and-roll autobiography called "Red: My Uncensored Life in Rock."
Hagar in 2007 was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Van Halen. He's also known for founding the Cabo Wabo Tequila brand and restaurant chain.
Bell founded Mars Hill church in Grandville, where each Sunday between 8,000 and 10,000 people stream into three services. He has a little bit of a rock resume, too. In his college days, he was in a band called "___ ton bundle" (yes, the blank was the first word), which had a guiitar player who dressed like a pirate.
"Green room meetings," where TV show guests hang out until they are on air, are famous for their unusual pairings.
