Chris Kanyon, a long-time WWE wrestler, and Notre Dame football recruit Matt James have both died this weekend, with Kanyon reportedly taking his own life and James falling from a hotel balcony.
Kanyon led something of a dark life. He revealed his homosexuality after retiring from wrestling and apparently battled bouts of depression, according to those close to him referenced in a wrestling-edge.com blog post.
Those same people close to him said he had admitted he was again going through one of his bouts of depression recently. He also claimed he was fired from wrestling because of his homosexuality and he later sued the WWE for refusing to pay health care benefits, the wrestling-edge post said, but that charge was later dismissed.
James, meanwhile, reportedly fell from a third-story balcony while on spring break at a hotel. The highly-touted football recruit was 17 years old.
On a weekend that includes the men's and women's NCAA Final Fours and Opening Night for baseball, it's sad to hear such tragic news from two corners of the sporting world.
