Although Mary Rivera moved to Newport News from Honduras five years ago, she still speaks somewhat broken English and misses much about her native Spanish-speaking land.So today was a homecoming of sorts for the young mother, who volunteered with her church at the Newport News Hispanic Advisory Committee's Community Outreach and Soccer Invitational. More than 450 local Hispanic residents showed up at Riverview Farm Park to watch soccer tournaments and pick up information – oftentimes spoken or written in Spanish – from more than two dozen community organizations and city agencies."I love Virginia … but I think it's important for me and my kids to come to events (that cater to the Hispanic community)," said Rivera. "It makes us whole."
