Jayne Peters, the mayor of Coppell, Texas, was found dead last night at her home outside Dallas, CBS News reports.

After Peters didn't show up for city council meeting, police went to her house. They found the 55-year-old and her 19-year-old daughter Corinne dead, both with gunshot wounds to the head. Investigators have said the incident may be a murder-suicide case.

Though the cause of the shooting is unclear, investigators say Peters may have shot her daughter before committing suicide. The authorities wouldn't comment further, and autopsies haven't been completed.
