Today starts the first day after a long wait in the Elizabeth Smart case. Jury selection begins in the federal trial of the man who is accused of kidnapping Smart eight years ago.

Brian David Mitchell is accused of slicing through a kitchen window screen and taking the 14-year-old girl in the middle of the night. Fortunately, Smart was rescued nine months later.

Mitchell was indicted in March 2008 on federal charges of kidnapping and unlawful transportation of a minor across state lines. If convicted, he could spend the rest of his life in a federal prison.
