The Tea Partiers have another big win, this time in Florida. But they aren't going to bat 1.000 -- Christine O'Donnell has gone down to defeat in Delaware.
The Florida senate race promised to be a flashy, combative one this summer, when Governor Charlie Crist quit the GOP to run as an independent. But he never got traction, and Rubio rode his Tea Party superstardom to an easy victory. The Democrat, Kendrick Meek, only got his name in the paper when rumors popped up that former President Bill Clinton asked him to bow out of the race to give Crist a chance.
Up in Delaware, O'Donnell was gaffe-prone, but she was cute and said all the right things to the base on the right side of the political spectrum. For a while it looked like that would be enough, but not this time. The Democrat, safe and steady Chris Coons, weathered the O'Donnell media storm and eased over the finish line.
So the GOP still needs nine pickups to take control of the Senate. The House of Reps going to the Republicans already appears to be a done deal.
